AI-suggested
A fix is available that introduces proper reference counting, null pointer checks, and cached device pointers to prevent use-after-free and null dereference conditions. Users should update to the patched Linux kernel versions that include these corrections. Patch status is not explicitly confirmed in the input data, so verify with the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ipoctal driver has been resolved addressing use-after-free (UAF) and null pointer dereference issues occurring when the device is removed while a tty session remains active. The flaws include UAF of the ipoctal structure due to improper memory management, null pointer dereference in the write function, and UAF during cleanup caused by accessing freed device structures. These issues have been fixed by introducing reference counting, null checks, and caching device pointers to prevent invalid memory access.
