AI-suggested

A fix is available that changes the capability check to use file_ns_capable(), verifying CAP_SYS_ADMIN against the credentials at file open time. Users should apply the official Linux kernel patches that address this vulnerability to ensure consistent and secure access control for PCI config space reads.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's PCI/proc interface allowed unprivileged processes to read the entire PCI configuration space if a privileged process opened the config space file and passed the file descriptor to them. This was due to the proc interface checking capabilities of the reading task rather than the opening process, unlike the sysfs interface. The issue has been resolved by changing the capability check to use the credentials of the process that opened the file, aligning procfs behavior with sysfs.
