A fix is available that adds validation of TV mode names to ensure they are properly NUL-terminated before processing. Users should apply the official kernel updates that include this fix. Since this is a kernel-level vulnerability, upgrading to patched kernel versions is the recommended mitigation.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's drm/gud component allows an out-of-bounds read due to improper validation of TV mode names returned by the GUD protocol. The vulnerability arises because the code does not ensure that each fixed-size TV mode name entry is NUL-terminated before passing it to functions that rely on string termination, potentially causing reads beyond the allocated buffer. This issue has been fixed by adding validation to reject malformed entries.
