AI-suggested
A fix is available that properly zeroes post-EOF data in the pagecache and writes it back before updating the inode size. Users should update to Linux kernel versions that include this fix. For environments using f2fs with fsync_mode=strict, applying the patch or upgrading the kernel is recommended to prevent exposure of stale data. No additional mitigation is required for Android environments where this issue is not present due to filesystem design.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's f2fs filesystem was fixed to ensure that when extending file size across an unaligned end-of-file (EOF) boundary, the post-EOF data in the partial page is zeroed out and properly written back. This prevents stale disk data beyond the previous EOF from being exposed after remounting or crash recovery. The issue affects certain Linux kernel versions and is particularly relevant outside of Android environments where f2fs is used with strict fsync_mode. The fix involves zeroing the partial page in pagecache, marking it dirty, and writing it back before updating the inode size.
