A fix is available that zero-initializes the apm_filtered bitmap to prevent use of uninitialized data. Users should apply the official kernel updates that include this patch. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's s390 vfio-ap component involves the use of an uninitialized bitmap variable, apm_filtered. This can cause unintended guest hardware queue resets due to arbitrary stack data being misinterpreted as valid APIDs. The issue occurs when certain filter conditions bypass initialization of the bitmap. The flaw has been fixed by zero-initializing the bitmap at the start of the relevant function.
