AI-suggested
The vulnerability has been resolved by making the v1 soft limit knob inert and standardizing its behavior. Users should update to kernel versions where this fix is applied. Since the feature is deprecated and the fix is implemented, no additional mitigation actions are required.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel related to the memcg (memory control group) v1 soft limit has been resolved. The v1 soft limit feature has been deprecated since kernel version 6.12 and is now made inert by ignoring writes and always reporting the maximum value on reads. This change unifies behavior across configurations and addresses a syzbot report. The vulnerability involved the soft limit reclaim path that could trigger certain kernel functions in an unintended way.
