AI-suggested

A fix is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel. The issue is resolved by adding r2 to the clobber list in call_do_irq() and call_do_softirq() functions. Users should update to the fixed kernel versions containing the patch identified by the provided commit hashes.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's powerpc/irq code causes a kernel crash during interrupt handling due to a missing r2 register clobber in inline assembly. This leads to register corruption and kernel failure to boot when CONFIG_PPC_KERNEL_PCREL mode is enabled. The issue arises because call_do_irq() and call_do_softirq() do not list r2 in their clobber lists, causing the compiler to incorrectly assume r2 is preserved across calls. The bug is fixed by adding r2 to the clobber list in affected functions.
