Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CWE-476: NULL Pointer Dereference) affects moby BuildKit versions from 0 up to but not including 0.33.1. When the BuildKit daemon is started with the --cdi-disabled flag, attempts to use Container Device Interface (CDI) devices during builds can cause the daemon to panic due to dereferencing a NULL pointer. This flaw can be triggered unintentionally or by an attacker, potentially disrupting build processes.

Potential Impact

Successful triggering of this vulnerability causes the BuildKit daemon to panic, resulting in denial of service for build operations relying on CDI devices. There is no indication of privilege escalation or code execution from the provided data.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, avoid starting the BuildKit daemon with the --cdi-disabled option if builds require CDI devices.
