Published: 09/18/2026 (09/18/2026, 10:53:59 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Red Hat
Product: Red Hat build of Apache Camel for Spring Boot 4

Description

A flaw was found in Netty's Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) Client. The client fails to verify the 'id-kp-OCSPSigning' Extended Key Usage (EKU) in OCSP responder certificates. A remote attacker, holding any valid certificate issued by the same Certificate Authority (CA), can exploit this by forging 'GOOD' OCSP responses for revoked certificates. This bypasses certificate revocation checks, allowing applications using Netty's OCSP Client to accept certificates that should have been revoked, leading to an authorization bypass.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability identified as CVE-2026-93578 involves a missing Extended Key Usage (EKU) check in the OCSP client implementation within the Red Hat build of Apache Camel for Spring Boot 4. This omission allows certificate revocation bypass, meaning the client may accept certificates that have been revoked, undermining the trust model of certificate validation. The CVSS v3.1 base score is 5.9, reflecting a network attack vector with high attack complexity and no privileges or user interaction required. The impact is limited to integrity, with no confidentiality or availability impact reported. The vendor advisory is available but does not specify affected versions or patch status.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows attackers to bypass certificate revocation checks, which can lead to acceptance of revoked certificates. This compromises the integrity of the certificate validation process, potentially allowing malicious certificates to be trusted. There is no reported impact on confidentiality or availability. No known exploits are reported in the wild.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the Red Hat vendor advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-93578 for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, users should monitor the advisory for updates and consider additional certificate validation controls if feasible.
