AI-suggested
A fix is available in openEQUELLA version 2026.1.0. Users should upgrade to this version to remediate the vulnerability. Until upgrading, restricting access to authenticated non-guest users and avoiding rendering dashboards containing affected portlets can reduce risk. No vendor advisory indicates alternative mitigations or that no action is required.
Description
openEQUELLA versions before 2026.1.0 contain an authenticated stored server-side template injection vulnerability in the FreemarkerPortletRenderer.renderHtml() function. This flaw allows any authenticated non-guest user to execute arbitrary code on the server by submitting a malicious FreeMarker template payload via a POST request to the RemotePortletService invoker endpoint. The vulnerability arises because the markup field from stored portlet configuration is passed to custFactory.createResult() without restrictions or sandboxing, enabling dangerous built-ins like ?new and freemarker.template.utility.Execute to run in the application server context when rendering affected dashboards.
