Technical Analysis

This vulnerability affects the Totolink A8000RU router's web management interface, specifically the setMacFilterRules function in /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi. By manipulating the 'enable' parameter, an attacker can perform OS command injection remotely without authentication or user interaction. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 9.3, indicating a critical severity with network attack vector, no privileges required, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Public exploit code exists, but no vendor patch or official fix has been disclosed as of the published date.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary operating system commands on the affected device, potentially leading to full compromise of the router. This can result in unauthorized control, data interception, or disruption of network services. The vulnerability does not require authentication or user interaction, increasing its risk.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to the router's web management interface from untrusted networks and consider disabling remote management features if possible. Monitor vendor channels for updates and apply patches promptly once released.
