Description

FasterXML Jackson 1.x versions including 1.8.3, 1.9.2, 1.9.11, 1.9.12, and 1.9.13 contain a denial of service vulnerability. This occurs when an attacker supplies deeply nested JSON input to an application that deserializes untrusted JSON using ObjectMapper.readValue. The vulnerability allows resource exhaustion leading to application disruption.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-95155 affects FasterXML Jackson 1.x, specifically jackson-mapper-asl versions 1.8.3, 1.9.2, 1.9.11, 1.9.12, and 1.9.13. The flaw allows attackers to cause a denial of service by providing deeply nested JSON input to applications that deserialize untrusted JSON using the ObjectMapper.readValue method. This can lead to excessive resource consumption and application unavailability.

Potential Impact

An attacker can cause a denial of service condition by submitting deeply nested JSON payloads, which can exhaust application resources during deserialization. This disrupts normal application operation but does not indicate code execution or data compromise from the provided information.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, avoid deserializing untrusted JSON inputs or implement input validation to limit JSON nesting depth.
