Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: mihdan
Product: No External Links

Description

The No External Links plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via Log URL via /goto/{base64} Redirect in all versions up to, and including, 5.2.0 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This is only exploitable when the administrator has enabled the 'Link Encoding: Base64' option in the plugin settings.

This vulnerability is tracked as CWE-79 and has a CVSS v3.1 base score of 7.2, indicating high severity.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary scripts in the context of users visiting affected pages, potentially leading to information disclosure and session hijacking. The vulnerability does not impact availability but compromises confidentiality and integrity of user interactions with the site.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or fix is currently documented. Administrators should consider disabling the 'Link Encoding: Base64' option in the plugin settings to prevent exploitation. Monitor the vendor's advisory channels for updates or patches addressing this vulnerability.
