Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-96526 is an information exposure vulnerability (CWE-200) in the MCP Server for WordPress plugin versions prior to 1.8.2. The plugin fails to enforce object-level authorization on a workflow REST route, enabling users with the Contributor role to retrieve metadata such as titles and publication statuses of posts, pages, and custom post types, including those that are private, drafts, pending, or scheduled, even if they belong to other users.

Potential Impact

Users with the Contributor role can disclose sensitive information about content they should not have access to, including private and unpublished posts. This exposure could lead to privacy violations and unintended information disclosure within the WordPress environment.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the MCP Server for WordPress plugin to version 1.8.2 or later, where this vulnerability has been addressed by implementing proper object-level authorization checks on the affected REST route.
