Source: CVE Database V5
Product: Cart Abandonment Recovery for WooCommerce

Description

The Cart Abandonment Recovery for WooCommerce WordPress plugin before 2.2.0 does not verify the integrity of its cart-recovery token before acting on it and still accepts an unsigned legacy token format, allowing unauthenticated attackers who know a victim's cart session identifier to modify that victim's abandoned-cart record, for example unsubscribing them from recovery emails or applying an arbitrary coupon to their restored cart.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-96901 is an improper authentication vulnerability (CWE-287) in the Cart Abandonment Recovery for WooCommerce plugin for WordPress versions prior to 2.2.0. The plugin does not verify the integrity of cart-recovery tokens before acting on them and continues to accept an unsigned legacy token format. This allows unauthenticated attackers who possess a victim's cart session identifier to manipulate the victim's abandoned cart record. Possible manipulations include unsubscribing the victim from recovery emails or applying arbitrary coupons to the restored cart.

Potential Impact

An attacker who knows a victim's cart session identifier can modify the victim's abandoned cart data without authentication. This can lead to denial of recovery email notifications or unauthorized application of coupons, potentially impacting marketing and sales processes but not directly compromising user credentials or site integrity.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the Cart Abandonment Recovery for WooCommerce plugin to version 2.2.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory. Patch status is confirmed by the version boundary provided.
