A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to address this vulnerability by correcting the PID handling in SMI event emission. Users should update to a patched kernel version that includes this fix. Since this is not a cloud service, remediation depends on applying the official kernel update. Patch status is not explicitly confirmed in the provided data; check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's drm/amdkfd component allowed a cross-process information leak via SMI events. The function kfd_smi_ev_enabled() skipped a superuser privilege check when pid=0, causing PROCESS_START, PROCESS_END, and VMFAULT events to be emitted with pid=0 but containing another process's PID and command name. This allowed any user with access to /dev/kfd in the render group to monitor all GPU workloads. The issue was fixed by passing the target process PID into kfd_smi_event_add() to restrict event delivery to the owning process or CAP_SYS_ADMIN subscribers.
