Product: MongoDB server

Description

CVE-2026-9743 is a high-severity vulnerability in MongoDB Server 8. 0. It involves a NULL pointer dereference in the aggregation pipeline processing. An authenticated user with permission to run aggregation pipelines can cause the server to crash by issuing a specially crafted aggregation followed by a getMore command on the same cursor, leading to denial of service.

Technical Analysis

In MongoDB Server version 8.0.0, a flaw exists in the handling of aggregation pipelines where the internal _subPipeline field can remain null during certain pipeline processing. If a getMore command is issued on the same cursor afterward, the server attempts to dereference this null pointer when reattaching to the operation context, causing an invalid memory access and crashing the server process. This vulnerability allows an authenticated user with aggregation privileges to cause a denial of service by triggering this condition.

Potential Impact

An attacker with authenticated access and the ability to run aggregation pipelines can cause the MongoDB server process to crash, resulting in a denial of service. There is no indication of data corruption or unauthorized data access from this vulnerability. The impact is limited to service availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or temporary workaround is currently documented. Until a patch is available, restrict aggregation pipeline permissions to trusted users only to reduce risk.
