A fix is available that corrects the SMB client code to respect the forceuid and forcegid mount options by checking the CIFS_MOUNT_OVERR_UID and CIFS_MOUNT_OVERR_GID flags before mapping SIDs to uid/gid. Administrators should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix to ensure the mount options are honored as intended.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's SMB client component allowed an untrusted server to override local file ownership despite administrator settings to force specific user and group IDs. This occurred because certain code paths ignored the forceuid and forcegid mount options, permitting server-provided values to overwrite the intended ownership. The issue has been fixed by ensuring these code paths respect the administrator's override settings.
