A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel source, identified by commits e33ce547c0cd40738d6bad23e5fc0539ee3e8f7d and 39b23c1c40e1f73d2b94a09282cc476af647e438. Users should update to the fixed Linux kernel version 7.1 or later containing these commits. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel bnxt_en driver can cause the transmit queue to stop and never restart when handling bursts of packets with deferred completions on small ring sizes (<= 457 descriptors). This occurs because the driver defers completions for packets but may fail to generate a completion for a subsequent large software USO packet, leading to a full ring with suppressed completions and a stalled queue. The issue is fixed by ensuring the NO_CMPL bit is cleared appropriately to guarantee completions are generated to clean the ring and wake the queue.
