A fix is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel source code after version 6.6. Users and administrators should update to a fixed kernel version containing the patches identified by the commits listed in establishedFacts.fixedVersions. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
CVE-2026-97579 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's MediaTek video codec driver for AV1 video decoding. The issue involves an unbounded copy operation in the function vdec_av1_slice_setup_tile(), where tile start indices are copied from the bitstream into arrays without proper bounds checking. This flaw has been fixed by bounding the copy to the array capacity to prevent out-of-bounds memory access.
