A fix is available and has been applied in Linux kernel version 6.1.189. Users and administrators should upgrade affected Linux kernel versions to 6.1.189 or later to remediate this issue. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel tracing subsystem could cause out-of-bounds memory access when histogram stats allocation fails. This occurs because an error code overwrites the entry count used during cleanup, leading to invalid memory dereferences and potential kernel crashes. The issue affects Linux kernel versions 6.1.23 up to but not including 6.1.189, and version 6.2. It has been fixed in version 6.1.189 and later.
