A patch is available and has been applied in multiple Linux kernel commits. Users should update to a fixed kernel version containing the referenced commits. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, applying the official kernel update is the recommended mitigation. No additional workarounds or mitigations are indicated.
Description
CVE-2026-97926 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's UFS filesystem code where cylinder group metadata is not validated before caching. This allows crafted filesystem images to cause out-of-bounds memory accesses during allocation and free operations by manipulating cylinder group indices and rotor positions. The flaw is fixed by rejecting cylinder groups with invalid indices or rotor values before caching the metadata.
