A fix is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel source code as indicated by multiple fixed commit versions. Users and administrators should update their Linux kernel to a version including these fixes to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
CVE-2026-97957 is a high-severity buffer overflow vulnerability in the Linux kernel's hinic network driver. The flaw arises from improper validation of the mailbox segment buffer length, allowing a heap buffer overflow of 16 bytes when the last segment carries a full payload exceeding the receive buffer size. This issue has been fixed by applying the same validation logic used in the hinic3 driver to reject oversized last segments.
