AI-suggested
This vulnerability has been fixed in Linux kernel versions 4.10, 4.15, and 4.19 and corresponding stable releases. Users and administrators should upgrade to these fixed versions or later to remediate the issue. No additional mitigations are required once patched. There is no indication of active exploitation in the wild.
Description
CVE-2026-98169 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel SMB client affecting versions 4.9.125 through 4.10, 4.14.68 through 4.15, 4.18.6 through 4.19, and exactly 4.19. It involves a potential out-of-bounds (OOB) read in the smb3_enum_snapshots() function due to improper validation of server reply length. This flaw can lead to leaking adjacent kernel memory to userspace. The issue is fixed by rejecting replies shorter than the expected structure size.
