Description
CVE-2026-98243 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's dma-buf/dma-fence subsystem. It involves incorrect checking of the signaling bit and ops pointer, which can lead to use-after-free conditions due to lost RCU protection after signaling. The issue was introduced by a prior patch that changed the check to avoid NULL pointer dereference but inadvertently removed necessary signaling checks. This has been fixed by adding back the signaling check alongside the ops pointer check to ensure both NULL dereference protection and RCU protection. The vulnerability affects Linux kernel versions >=7.1.5 and <=7.2, with fixes applied in version 7.2 and specific commits.
