Description
CVE-2026-98256 is a high-severity use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's signal handling code related to exec() races. It involves a race condition where signals queued on a dying task's pending queue are not properly flushed, leading to potential use-after-free scenarios. The flaw arises from delayed flushing of signals in release_task() instead of exit_signals(), allowing signals to be queued on freed memory. The issue was fixed by moving the signal flush to exit_signals(), preventing signal queueing on tasks marked as exiting, and protecting related operations with proper locking.
