A fix is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel. Users should update to a fixed kernel version containing the commits identified (e.g., d602877baf36c43c788a5f472c977e0be414029f and others). No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official patch.
Description
CVE-2026-98260 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel version 5.7 involving improper cleanup of POSIX timers after a non-leader thread calls exec(). This flaw can lead to use-after-free conditions when the timer node remains queued after the thread's PID ownership changes and the task exits prematurely due to failures in exec-related functions. The issue has been fixed by moving the POSIX timer cleanup immediately after the de_thread() call to prevent the use-after-free scenario.
