Description
CVE-2026-98379 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's netfilter IPv6 reverse path filter (ip6t_rpfilter) where routes without an associated inet6_dev device can cause a NULL pointer dereference. This occurs because ip6_route_lookup() may return a route with a NULL rt6i_idev after lowering the MTU of an external nexthop device below IPV6_MIN_MTU, which tears down its inet6_dev while leaving routes intact. An unprivileged user can exploit this in a private user and network namespace to trigger a kernel crash (general protection fault) via IPv6 rpfilter lookup. The issue has been fixed by rejecting routes without inet6_dev immediately after lookup to prevent unsafe dereferences.
