A patch is available and has been applied in Linux kernel version 6.8 and related commits. Users and administrators should upgrade to Linux kernel 6.8 or later to remediate these issues. Since this is a kernel-level resource management flaw, no additional mitigations are indicated beyond applying the official fix.
Description
CVE-2026-98473 addresses three related issues in the Linux kernel's s390 vfio-ap driver that cause leaks of KVM GISC registrations and pinned guest pages when queues are removed from the host's AP configuration. The flaws involve improper handling of the AP_RESPONSE_Q_NOT_AVAIL response code during queue reset and status checks, and a resource leak when kvm is NULL during resource freeing. These issues can lead to resource leaks and potential double-free conditions in the kernel's virtualization subsystem. The vulnerabilities affect Linux kernel versions 6.6.15 through 6.7, 6.7.3 through 6.8, and version 6.8 exactly. Fixes have been implemented in Linux kernel 6.8 and related commits.
