A fix is available and has been applied in multiple Linux kernel commits. Users and administrators should update to a Linux kernel version that includes the fix (commits eaa7d29341ef4b91e84ad097562982288a7c376c and others). No additional mitigation is required once the kernel is updated.
Description
CVE-2026-98499 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's HID wacom driver. It involves an out-of-bounds (OOB) read in the function wacom_wac_pen_serial_enforce() caused by improper handling of HID report descriptors with more usages than the reserved Report Count. This can lead to reading memory beyond the intended buffer, potentially disclosing kernel memory contents to userspace via MSC_SERIAL events. The flaw is fixed by clamping the loop to the actual report count to prevent invalid memory access.
