AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel and is available in the listed fixed commit versions. Users and administrators should update their Linux kernel to a version that includes these fixes to mitigate the vulnerability. Since this is a kernel-level issue, applying the official patches or upgrading to a fixed kernel release is the recommended mitigation. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.

Description

CVE-2026-98532 is a high severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's IPv6 implementation where the function ipv6_find_hdr() can return an offset beyond the end of a packet. This occurs because the function does not properly check the length of IPv6 extension headers against the packet length, potentially causing out-of-bounds memory access. This flaw can lead to use-after-free bugs and memory corruption, as demonstrated in Open vSwitch where the transport checksum field is accessed out of bounds.
