A fix is available in the Linux kernel versions identified by the fixed commit hashes (d7c5bd3159235edb0f2febe2cd3d3b0fb53986f1, 2776e9c28513a1c855a94792b292cbcc533418c8, 599d0498a39319285afa908762e0c9fad29f772e, 3bd335ed62444bec61201df7d368a0779e5bd300). Users should update to a Linux kernel version that includes these fixes. No additional mitigation is indicated.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's dm-verity root hash handling was fixed by protecting the root hash with RCU synchronization. The function ipe_bdev_setintegrity() previously freed the old root hash while it could still be dereferenced during policy evaluation, leading to potential memory safety issues. This flaw was addressed by ensuring the root hash is protected by RCU, matching the existing evaluation path protections.
