A fix for this vulnerability is available and has been applied in multiple Linux kernel commits. Users and administrators should update affected Linux kernel versions (such as 4.15) to a fixed version containing these patches. No additional mitigation actions are required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
CVE-2026-98550 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's TIPC protocol where invalid or unexpected GRP_ACK_MSG messages can cause an underflow of the bc_ackers counter. This underflow leads to permanent congestion reporting and blocks future group broadcasts on the socket. The flaw arises from incomplete validation of ACK messages, allowing decrementing of the bc_ackers counter when it should not occur. The issue affects Linux kernel version 4.15 and has been fixed in several subsequent commits.
