A fix is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel commits identified by hashes b1961a61ab6fbe11f16f7f9b64c57a9908c6c3a8 and 6bdcdb31318c10e6369cff8e5b32c37397e98091. Users and administrators should update to a Linux kernel version containing these commits to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation is required as the fix sanitizes the input before use.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's mac80211 wireless subsystem involves improper validation of TX status rate metadata. Malformed metadata could lead to out-of-bounds indexing in rate control tables, potentially corrupting mac80211 state. The issue has been fixed by validating rate metadata earlier in the TX status processing path to prevent invalid entries from propagating. This fix does not remove the need for drivers to report valid data but prevents a single bad report from causing kernel state corruption.
