The vulnerability has been fixed in the Linux kernel. Users should update to a kernel version that includes the fix identified by commits a4573a3838ae4fc73b70019cfa1dac9aaea7cc2f, 2581b43e162cfc43e6f5d8dd8d2b38f3441550de, 132bee76097be421ab3012130b5b506324cf2be1, or 6e187281f978a2bff98ead6aa40f8ddc9a2c9afb. No additional mitigation is required once patched.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel perf subsystem allowed unprivileged users to request kernel callchain collection without proper permission checks. The flaw was that permission checks were only enforced when kernel profiling was requested, but not when kernel callchains were requested separately. This could have allowed unauthorized kernel callchain capture. The issue has been fixed by updating permission checks to cover both kernel sampling and kernel callchain requests.
