A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel. Users should update to the fixed kernel version 6.10 or later where the patch is applied. No additional mitigation is required once the system is updated.
Description
CVE-2026-98974 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's XFS filesystem related to the XFS_IOC_EXCHANGE_RANGE ioctl with the TO_EOF flag. The flaw allows incorrect file size manipulation during block exchange operations, causing files to have shared blocks beyond their end-of-file (EOF), which is invalid. This can lead to data corruption by enabling writes to shared blocks past EOF. The issue arises from improper handling of file size updates when exchanging file ranges, leading to clearing of reflink flags incorrectly and subsequent unsafe writes.
