A fix for this vulnerability is available in the Linux kernel. The issue has been resolved by ensuring that interrupts are only unmasked when the ACTIVE state is true, preventing the race condition. Users and administrators should update to a Linux kernel version that includes the fix (commits identified by hashes 5346b1cec6afa4f9b4b49a9f84e3cfef95a3f7bb, 77abc1837c9651c8f43f7f7f336d10093eeb7745, 60f58da15f8c8e39706c564f9251de3626636dce, 49d349c42cf5ebaa878d02699c632c9d883d935f, or 0b4a0fb98b9ffeac36798bbd369c821605cae70f). No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
CVE-2026-99005 is a race condition vulnerability in the Linux kernel's drm/i915 graphics driver related to power management interrupt handling. The flaw allows unmasking of interrupts when the graphics technology (GT) is parked and the runtime power management wakelock is dropped, potentially causing kernel tainting due to hardware access without proper wakelock. This issue arises from a timing window between checking an ACTIVE state and queuing work that can execute after the GT is parked. The vulnerability has been fixed by ensuring interrupts are only unmasked when the ACTIVE state is true.
