AI-suggested
A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented by initializing the 'modname' and 'offset' variables in print_rec(). Users should apply the official kernel updates that include this fix. Since this is a Linux kernel vulnerability, upgrading to a patched kernel version is the recommended mitigation.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ftrace subsystem occurs because the variables 'modname' and 'offset' are left uninitialized in the print_rec() function. This can cause a general protection fault (kernel crash) when reading available_filter_functions during module load or unload operations. The issue arises when kallsyms_lookup() fails and leaves 'modname' with garbage data that is improperly dereferenced. The vulnerability has been resolved by initializing these variables to prevent the crash.
