A fix is available that addresses the cancellation reference wrap issue by making cancellation attempts idempotent. Users should apply the official patches or update to fixed kernel versions to remediate this vulnerability.
Description
CVE-2026-99227 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's io_uring waitid cancellation mechanism. It involves a flaw where repeated failed cancellation attempts can cause a 31-bit reference counter to wrap around to zero, allowing a later cancellation to incorrectly claim ownership and complete a request twice. The issue is fixed by making cancellation attempts idempotent through atomic operations on the cancellation flag.
