AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to clamp invalid DataOffset values and reject read responses where the data range exceeds the received buffer length. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this patch. No additional mitigations are indicated.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel SMB client was fixed involving improper validation of the data area in SMB2_read(). The flaw allowed a malicious SMB server to craft a response that caused the client to copy more data than was actually received, leading to out-of-bounds memory access. This could result in memory corruption or crashes when processing SMB2 read responses with manipulated DataOffset and DataLength fields.
