Technical Analysis

This vulnerability, identified as CWE-770, involves the allocation of resources without limits or throttling in ASP.NET Core within Microsoft .NET 10.0 and certain 8.x and 9.x versions. An unauthorized attacker can exploit this flaw remotely (network attack vector) without any privileges or user interaction to cause a denial of service condition by exhausting resources. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 7.5 (high severity), reflecting the impact on availability only. The vendor has issued an official fix to address this issue.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows an attacker to deny service to legitimate users by exhausting system resources in ASP.NET Core applications running on affected .NET versions. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity. The attack can be performed remotely without authentication or user interaction.

Mitigation Recommendations

An official fix is available for this vulnerability. Users and administrators should apply the vendor-provided patches to affected .NET versions promptly to mitigate the risk of denial of service. Since this is not a cloud service, remediation depends on applying updates to affected systems.
