AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability is available in pyasn1 version 0.22.6. Users should upgrade to this version or later to remediate the issue. Applications should also consider input validation and limits on ASN.1 fragment counts if feasible. No other specific mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.

Description

CVE-2026-119196 is a high-severity vulnerability in pyasn1 through version 0.6.4 that causes quadratic CPU consumption when decoding constructed BIT STRING values with many fragments. This can lead to CPU exhaustion and denial of service during ASN.1 decoding. The issue affects BER and CER decoders and certain schema-driven DER decoding paths. The vulnerability arises from inefficient bit shifting operations in the decoder implementation. A fix is available in pyasn1 version 0.22.6.
