Description

PraisonAI versions up to 4.6.77 contain an authentication bypass vulnerability in the Call API agent invocation endpoints when the PRAISONAI_CALL_AUTH setting is disabled. The vulnerability arises because the localhost-only restriction is enforced by checking the HTTP Host header, which is client-controlled, allowing a remote attacker to spoof this header and bypass authentication to list and invoke agents.

Technical Analysis

PraisonAI before version 4.6.78 has an authentication bypass vulnerability in the Call API agent invocation endpoints (src/praisonai/praisonai/api/agent_invoke.py) when the configuration PRAISONAI_CALL_AUTH=disabled is used. The intended safeguard restricts unauthenticated access to localhost by verifying the bind host from request.url.hostname, which is derived from the client-controlled HTTP Host header. An attacker able to send requests over the network can spoof the Host header to '127.0.0.1' and bypass the localhost-only restriction, allowing unauthenticated listing (GET /api/v1/agents) and invocation (POST /api/v1/agents/{agent_id}/invoke) of registered agents.

Potential Impact

A remote unauthenticated attacker can bypass the localhost-only authentication restriction by spoofing the Host header, enabling unauthorized access to list and invoke registered agents. This can lead to unauthorized information disclosure and unauthorized command execution within the context of the PraisonAI service.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in PraisonAI version 4.6.78. Users should upgrade to version 4.6.78 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No other mitigation guidance is provided in the advisory.
