AI-suggested

A fixed version is available in hex 2.5.2. Users should upgrade to version 2.5.2 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No other mitigation or temporary workaround is indicated. Since the vulnerability requires package owner permissions or account compromise, securing package owner accounts is also recommended.

Description

A protection mechanism failure vulnerability in Erlang hex (hexpm) allows a package owner or an attacker who has compromised the owner's account to bypass the release-age cooldown. This cooldown normally prevents newly published versions from being selected during dependency resolution until they reach a configured age. The vulnerability enables bypassing this cooldown when a release is retired, allowing the next dependency update to select the new release regardless of its age. This affects hex versions from 2.5.0 before 2.5.2.
