AI-suggested

A fix is available in filelock version 4.2.1 or later (fixed in 4.2.1 as per established facts). Users should upgrade to a fixed version to resolve this issue. Until then, restricting write permissions to the lock directory to trusted users and avoiding shared sticky directories on ext4 or xfs filesystems can reduce risk. No other mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.

Description

A vulnerability in the filelock library versions 3.22.0 through 4.2.0 allows a local user with write access to a sticky shared directory (e.g., /tmp) on ext4 or xfs filesystems to cause two processes of the lock owner to simultaneously hold the same lock. This occurs due to inode reuse and a race condition in the stale-lock break logic of SoftFileLock and related classes, leading to integrity violations without confidentiality or availability impact.
