This vulnerability has been patched in Firebird snapshot versions 4.0.6.3183, 5.0.2.1610, and 6.0.0.609, as well as in point releases 4.0.6 and 5.0.2. Users should upgrade to these fixed versions to remediate the issue. As a workaround, setting ExtConnPoolSize to 0 in the firebird.conf configuration file disables the external connection pool and mitigates the vulnerability.
Description
Firebird relational database versions prior to snapshot versions 4.0.6.3183, 5.0.2.1610, and 6.0.0.609 are vulnerable to a server process segfault when ExtConnPoolSize is not set to 0. This occurs due to improper verification of connections in the external connection pool related to the CryptCallback interface. The vulnerability can affect both encrypted and unencrypted databases, potentially allowing access to encrypted databases without proper keys and causing crashes when execute statements are chained. The issue has been patched in the specified snapshot and point releases. A workaround is to set ExtConnPoolSize to 0 in the configuration file.
