FreeCAD is a free and open-source multiplatform 3D parametric modeler. (CVE-2026-73234)
Description
FreeCAD versions prior to 1.1.2 contain a vulnerability in the PropertyFileIncluded::Restore() function that allows an attacker to write arbitrary files to locations accessible by the user. This is due to insufficient validation of file paths in crafted .FCStd archives, potentially leading to persistence, credential compromise, configuration replacement, or code execution. The issue is fixed in version 1.1.2.

Technical Analysis
In FreeCAD before version 1.1.2, the PropertyFileIncluded::Restore() function in src/App/PropertyFile.cpp improperly concatenates an attacker-controlled file or data attribute from Document.xml with the document transient path without rejecting directory traversal components, absolute paths, or parent directory references. This flaw allows a crafted .FCStd archive containing a matching FileIncluded XML attribute and ZIP entry to write attacker-controlled content to arbitrary locations accessible to the FreeCAD user. This can lead to persistence mechanisms, credential compromise, configuration replacement, or code execution. The vulnerability is resolved in FreeCAD version 1.1.2.
Potential Impact
An attacker who can supply a crafted .FCStd archive can cause FreeCAD to write files to arbitrary locations accessible by the user. This can result in persistence on the system, compromise of user credentials, replacement of configuration files, or execution of arbitrary code with the user's privileges.
Mitigation Recommendations
This vulnerability is fixed in FreeCAD version 1.1.2. Users should upgrade to version 1.1.2 or later to remediate this issue. No other mitigation or workaround is specified.
