Description

FreeRDP versions before 3.32.0 contain a vulnerability where a NULL pointer dereference occurs in the arm_handle_request_ok function when an ARM endpoint returns an empty HTTP 200 response body. This can cause the client to crash if an attacker controlling the ARM gateway returns a zero-length body. The vulnerability has a medium severity with a CVSS score of 5.3 and affects multiple Ubuntu package versions of FreeRDP.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in FreeRDP (CVE-2026-109679) is a NULL pointer dereference in the arm_handle_request_ok function triggered when an ARM endpoint returns an empty HTTP 200 body. Attackers who control the configured ARM gateway can exploit this by returning a zero-length HTTP 200 response body, which causes a NULL pointer to be passed to the strnlen function, resulting in a crash of the connecting FreeRDP client. This affects FreeRDP versions prior to 3.32.0, including various Ubuntu package versions.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in a denial of service by crashing the FreeRDP client due to a NULL pointer dereference. There is no indication of confidentiality, integrity, or privilege escalation impact. The vulnerability requires an attacker to control the ARM gateway configured by the client.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available for this vulnerability. Users should upgrade FreeRDP to version 3.32.0 or later to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
