Description

FreeRDP versions from 3.11.0 up to but not including 3.32.1 contain a reachable assertion vulnerability in the urb_isoch_transfer function. This flaw allows a malicious RDP server to crash the client by sending a specially crafted OutputBufferSize value that exceeds INT32_MAX. The vulnerability triggers an assertion failure in libusb_udev_isoch_transfer, causing client termination. The CVSS score is 3.1, indicating low severity, with no confidentiality or integrity impact, only availability impact due to client crash.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-109240 describes a reachable assertion vulnerability in FreeRDP versions 3.11.0 before 3.32.1 within the urb_isoch_transfer function. A malicious RDP server can send a TS_URB_ISOCH_TRANSFER IN-direction request with an OutputBufferSize value exceeding INT32_MAX over the URBDRC channel. This input is not properly validated, leading to an assertion failure in libusb_udev_isoch_transfer that terminates the client process. The vulnerability results in a denial-of-service condition by crashing the FreeRDP client.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker controlling an RDP server to cause a denial-of-service by crashing the FreeRDP client. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity. The crash occurs due to an assertion triggered by an unvalidated large OutputBufferSize value, resulting in client termination and loss of availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in FreeRDP version 3.32.1 and later. Users should upgrade to version 3.32.1 or newer to remediate this vulnerability. No other mitigations are indicated. Patch status is confirmed by the version range affected and fixed versions stated.
