Description
FreeRDP versions before 3.32.0 contain a NULL pointer dereference vulnerability in the websocket transport. This flaw allows a malicious gateway to crash FreeRDP clients by sending zero-length ping frames. The vulnerability triggers an assertion failure that terminates the client process, causing a denial of service condition.

Technical Analysis
The vulnerability in FreeRDP prior to version 3.32.0 is a NULL pointer dereference in the websocket transport implementation. Specifically, when the payload length of a ping frame is zero, the function websocket_reply_pong passes a nullptr stream to websocket_reply_close. This leads to an assertion failure that terminates the client process, resulting in a denial of service. The issue can be triggered by a malicious gateway sending zero-length ping frames to the client.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation causes the FreeRDP client process to crash, resulting in denial of service. There is no indication of confidentiality, integrity, or privilege escalation impacts. The vulnerability affects client stability and availability.
Mitigation Recommendations
A patch is available that fixes this vulnerability in FreeRDP version 3.32.0 and later. Users should upgrade to version 3.32.0 or newer to remediate this issue. There is no indication that other mitigations or workarounds are provided or required.
